Apa yang dimaksud dengan question tag?

Mengutip dari buku Bahas Tuntas 1001 Soal Bahasa Inggris SMP, question tag juga disebut dengan istilah mini questions.

Kata ini digunakan untuk menegaskan atau membenarkan kalimat yang diujarkan oleh penanya.

Question tag ini pun merupakan kata tambahan yang diletakkan di akhir kalimat.

Dalam bahasa Indonesia jenis kata ini dapat diartikan sebagai 'kan?' atau 'bukan?' yang digunakan pada akhir kalimat tanya.

Rumus Question Tag

Untuk membuat question tag ini kita perlu melihat kalimat yang akan diubah tersebut.

Apabila kalimat tersebut merupakan kalimat positif, maka question tag-nya berbentuk negatif.

Sebaliknya, jika kalimat tersebut merupakan kalimat negatif, maka question tag-nya berbentuk positif.

Jenis dan Contoh

1. Berpredikat kata kerja (Verb)

Contoh:

• She goes to work, doesn't she?

• You came here last night, didn't you?

• Bruce and Bill ate yesterday, didn't they?

• They didn't eat yesterday, didn't they?

• Debo doesn't come back today, does he?

2. Menggunakan Modal

Contoh:

• She will arrive here tomorrow, won't she?

• He can win the competition, can't he?

• You must get what you want, mustn't you?

• Tiffany may go now, may not she?

• The buses may not park here, may they?

3. Dengan Lingking Verb Berupa 'To Be'

Contoh:

• She is very nice, isn't she?

• He was here last night, wasn't he?

• You are great, aren't you?

• They were a teacher, weren't they?

• Luluk wasn't at school, was she?

4. Dengan Auxiliary Verb Berupa 'To Be'

Contoh: 

• She is eating now, isn't she?

• You are studying English, aren't you?

• He was playing football, wasn't he?

• Keisha wasn't cleaning the dust, was she?

• These cats weren't runnion the desk, weren't they?

5. Dengan Auxiliary Berupa 'Have/Has'

• She has gone to Bali, hasn't she?

• They have known each other's, haven't theya?

• Stephen hasn't received the massage, has he?

• The flowers haven't flowered yet, have they?

• An elephant hasn't eaten this morning, has it?

6. Kata kerja has/have

Catatan:

1. Untuk has/have + V3, question tag menggunakan has/have.
2. Untuk has/have + selain V3 menggunakan bentuk question tag berupa do/does.

Contoh:

• She has a cute doll, doesn't she?

• You have much money, don't you?

• A tiger has a tail, doesn't it?

• Desa doesn't have a girl friend, does he?

• Zakia and Zahwa don't have a boyfriend, do they?

Pengecualian

• Everybody is there, aren't they?

• Nothing is right, is it?

• I am late, am I?

Catatan 

1. Perhatikan jenis tenses kalimat tersebut.
2. Perhatikan jenis kalimat termasuk positif atau negatif.
3. Perhatikan keberadaan kata kerja baru.
